Taxi levels in the Shannonside Region have dropped by an average of 20 percent in the last 5 years. Figures released to Independent TD Carol Nolan show 287 taxi licences in 2023 compared to 324 in 2019. Roscommon saw the biggest drop locally and the 4th highest decrease in the country, with license levels decreasing by over 19 percent, from 108 to 87.
That's followed directly in the national rankings by Longford, where a drop of over 18 percent was recorded, with 25 fewer licenses now than five years ago. Leitrim comes in after that with a loss of 18 percent of taxi licenses when compared to 2019, with 71 active licenses as of 2023. Nationally, the figures show Taxi licence numbers fell in 23 of 26 counties in the past five years.
