Sligo-Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry is believed to be on the brink of being re-admitted to the Fianna Fail parliamentary party.
Offaly TD Barry Cowen proposed last night that he be allowed re-join the party officially after he quit over 12 months in a row over the direction of the organisation.
He has been a vocal critic of the direction and leadership style of Micheal Martin's and had previously described the party as being run undemocratically and a totalitarian regime.
The proposal was seconded by Senator Diarmuid Wilson and it's understood that the process to re-admit him to the party may take a number of weeks, with the Taoiseach indicating he will speak to the Sligo TD and former senator following the proposal.
