A Longford Fianna Fail councillor says she believes members of the government should be more careful when writing opinion pieces in the papers about issues like taxation.
Councillor Uremu Adejinmi was speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning about the controversy surrounding a piece written in the papers this week by three Fine Gael Junior Ministers advocating a €1,000 tax break for the "squeezed middle income families" in the next budget.
Longford/Westmeath Fine Gael Deputy and Junior minister Peter Burke was one of the three names on the piece.
The Longford Councillor says she's concerned the ideas put forward by the politicians will create an expectation that could cause disappointment if it can't be met.
'What isn't actually being considered here is the policy. The impact of these op-eds and the expectation it creates.
If it doesn't happen, how it upsets the people on the ground, that is my concern.
I would like for our parliamentarians to keep in mind the impact of these op-eds.'
