Leitrim County Council have refused planning permission for a height extension to an existing telecom mast in the middle of Carrick-on-Shannon. Towercom Limited had sought the go ahead for the infrastructure at the Eir Exchange in Saint George's Terrace. Their application called for the mast to be increased to 21 metres in height to accommodate new antennae and telecommunications equipment.
As part of the plans, the developer sought the removal of the existing head frame from the structure and the relocation of the active equipment. The plans were refused by county planners under two headings, including that it would be visually obtrusive, discordant and out of character with the area.
