Tenders are being sought for a multi-million euro extension and refurbishment of Athlone Fire Station. The project involves the extension of the existing fire station appliance bay including cost optimal energy upgrades and refurbishment of welfare blocks on site. The tender will include design, engineering and electrical installation services among others. The full project is set to cost over €2.9 million, with funding granted from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government. The closing date for submission of tenders is the 17th of October. Mayor of Athlone, Councillor Frankie Keena says the works will go towards providing a modern base for local fire services:
