Four large tents have been erected at the direct provision centre in Lissywollen in Athlone to accommodate additional refugees arriving into Ireland.
The Department of Equality has confirmed that the tents have been erected in order to meet a large increase in arrivals to Ireland.
It's hoped the structures can help accommodate up to 200 people in the short term, with works underway to identify and source longer term accommodation for International Protection applicants.
The four large tents are each subdivided into mini bedrooms together with full toilet and washing facilities and the provision of meals.
The department claims the temporary structure will begin moving in later this month once the full structure is established supporting services is complete.
No Ukrainian refugees will be accommodated at the site as the accommodation is expected to cater for International Protection applicants only.
