The chairperson of Longford Tidy Towns believes the use of CCTV to tackle illegal dumping will not be a silver bullet.
Legislation has been passed which will allow local council to use security cameras to identify people who engage in fly tipping, without GDPR concerns.
While John Farrell welcomes the new law he feels people will become aware of the camera locations and avoid them.
The local volunteer is doubtful CCTV will tackle the escalating problem of illegal dumping on its own.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show john explained how he believes the issue of dumping should be dealt with.
"The household waste would go back to the local authorities Every house in the country has an eircode and, as far as i'm concerned, every house should have a bin tied to that eircode. The local authority would take charge of this or through a private contractor and we would pay for this through our property tax. The person that's paying at the moment would have nothing to fear because they're paying regardless but with that system in place, everyone is accounted for".
