Three complaints were made to the Inspector of Prisons last year from inmates at Castlerea Prison in Roscommon.
The office of the Inspector of Prisons is responsible for carrying out regular inspections of all prisons in Ireland and investigations into the death of prisoners in custody or on temporary release.
The office released it's 2022 annual report recently, with data showing a total of 3 official complaints made in Castlerea Prison.
As part of the process, Prisoners are allowed send unopened letters to the body, with prison management required to allow privacy between inmate and inspector staff.
Over the course of last year, 6 such letters were sent from Castlerea Prison, matching the number from the previous year.
Nationally, the main issues highlighted in inmate correspondence to the Inspector were mental and physical health concerns not being addressed, concerns over violence from prisoners or prison staff and issues around visitation rights.
Across the country, 143 letters were sent from 74 prisoners to the Inspector of Prisons last year.
