Longford councillor Seamus Butler has described the decision by TII not to allocate money to progress the Longford Mullingar N4 upgrade next year as 'perverse' and 'unbelievable'.
The Fianna Fail local representative who led a regional delegation to Leinster House on the project in 2016 says he can't understand the thinking of the transport infrastructure body.
Councillor Butler says when the project was shelved due to the financial crisis in 2009 a concerted campaign led by Longford Chamber of Commerce had managed to get it put back on the National Development Plan.
A total of nine local authorities and Chambers of Commerce had lent their support to the project previously.
The Fianna Fail councillor says they can't let this vital piece of infrastructure be delayed any further and support from a wide region will be needed again now.
