Today marks four years since the murder of Detective Garda Colm Horkan in the line of duty in Castlerea, Co Roscommon.
The Charlestown native was shot dead while carrying out an anti-crime patrol in the town.
43-year-old Stephen Silver was subsequently convicted of the capital murder of Detective Horkan and sentenced to life in prison last year.
Then Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and President Micheal D Higgins paid tribute to the popular Detective Garda following his death.
In June of this year, Taoiseach Simon Harris officially opened the Colm Horkan Memorial Pitch and Community Walkway at Fr O’Hara GAA Park in Charlestown in his memory.
