Aontu’s Peadar Toibin believes his transfers will push Ciaran Mullooly to victory in the Midlands Northwest constituency in the European elections.
Mullooly, from Ballyleague/Lanesboro, is trailing Sinn Fein’s Michelle Gildernew by 1,700 votes in the race for the last seat.
It’s after she got almost 21,000 transfers after her running mate, Chris McManus, was eliminated – and Mullooly got less than 1,200.
The first four seats are set to go to Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan, Fine Gael’s Nina Carberry and Maria Walsh, and Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowan.
The result of the 19th count will be announced shortly, and it involves the distribution of Toibin’s votes.
He believes his voters will favour Mullooly over Gildernew.
Political analyst John Mulligan, from Boyle in Co Roscommon, also believes Mullooly will benefit more from Toibin’s votes.
