Many towns in the Shannonside region have introduced paid-parking, like Longford town and Carrick-on-Shannon.

They’re rising by 5 per cent, in the first increase in the county in over 15 years.

The notices were issued in April and so far over 14,000 euro has been received.

Cllr Tom Crosby was speaking at a public meeting in the village on Monday night, where over 100 people expressed anger at the ongoing trial of one-way system on the bridge.

Roscommon County Council is inviting submissions from the public, ahead of a decision being made in October.

A total of €13.4 million in these charges are due to be collected this year.
