The Tánaiste has indicated tougher legislation around dog ownership is on the way.
It's after the coroner at an inquest into the death of a three month old urged dog owners with young children to urge extreme caution.
The inquest into the death of Mia O'Connell from Co Waterford heard she was found next to the family's terrier Dachshund cross.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin says a review into dangerous dog ownership is ongoing.
'I do think there's a need for a comprehensive review of the legislation around this, and the working group is working on that.
I do envisage tougher legislation , both in terms of certain animal types, in my view , in my personal view, and in respect to the owners of dogs.'
