Participants from around the country are expected to gather in Ballintubber today to take part in a traditional skills course.
The event which is spread across two days will be officially launched by Deputy Michael Ring at 2pm this afternoon.
It aims to highlight how to conserve and protect medieval castles and Councillor Anthony is hopeful a training school can be set up in time to train people how to remove ivy and treat stone.
He says people are coming from as far Munster and Northern Ireland to take part in the course.
''People from as far as Kerry and indeed in Northern Ireland as well, people from Tyrone and from the adjoining counties had huge interest and what we hope to do is to establish a training school at the castle in Ballintubber that will suitably qualify people to deal with this problem of ivy because it's attacking a lot of our historical buildings.''
