Significant traffic disruptions are expected in Longford Town this evening as Santa himself arrives to turn on the town's Christmas lights. The Longford Christmas fair is expected to bring hundreds to the town as a Christmas market and celebration takes place from four pm. The market will occupy Grafton Court Street resulting in it being closed to motorists while the Main Street in the town will be closed from 6pm.
Diversions will be in place and local Gardaí are urging those travelling to the town to give themselves extra time. Longford Garda Inspector Declan McGlynn says that while the events will cause disruption, the celebrations will be well worth it:
