Funding has been allocated for traffic lights at one of Roscommon's worst blackspots.
Following a feasibility study Transport Infrastructure Ireland has approved the lights at the busy junction in Frenchpark.
The project will now move to the next stage and Roscommon County Council will prepare the design and advance the scheme to construction.
Sinn Fein Deputy Claire Kerrane believes this should be completed as soon as possible in consultation with local people and businesses.
"Certainly, in my lifetime, there has been incident after incident at the junction. It has been long recognised and acknowledged as dangerous and it is back to the Council now, and, I will be urging them to prepare the designs in consultation with residents and businesses, particularly those living and working close to the junction to make sure a plan and design can be put in place and the construction can begin as quickly as possible."
