Tributes have continued to pour in for former Roscommon Mayor Martin Connaughton, who passed away yesterday at the age of 80.
Paying tribute on social media, his son and former councillor Ivan Connaughton described him as a 'larger than life character'.
He said his father, who served three terms as a Roscommon councillor, had passed away suddenly but peacefully on his farm on Monday.
Ivan said his father loved people and people loved him and he thanked all those who had shown him kindness and friendship over the years.
He said Martin's life revolved around family, farming, community, politics and the game of 25.
His political slogan, Ivan said, was 'People Before Politics', and that he had kept to his word throughout his political life.
Martin Connaughton will be laid to rest on Thursday following funeral mass in St Patrick's Church, Athleague.
