Government must work alongside nursing homes to ensure they thrive and survive according to a Roscommon Councillor.
John Naughton's call comes following the announcement that the Stella Maris Nursing Home in Athlone is set to close.
It's the second care provider to decide to shuts its doors in recent months with Costellos nursing home in Ballyleague also citing soaring costs as a major concern.
Councillor Naughton is today paying tribute to the Nally family for their dedication over the last 35 years.
He believes a plan must be put in place to ensure care homes are able to remain in business.
''It's a very sad day for Athlone and South Roscommon, Stella Maris nursing home provided an excellent service over the years. When we see nursing homes providing a very high standard of care, I think we need to be working with them to ensure the can survive rather than finding problems.''
