Tributes are being paid today to Longford resident and former RTE presenter Aidan O' Hara who has died at the age of 84.
Mr O' Hara came to live in Longford with his wife in 2004 and became an integral part of the local community through his interests and experience in the fields of Irish culture, history and the Irish diaspora.
He worked at the national broadcaster for several years and went on to produce award winning documentaries and shows about emigration and culture.
Speaking on the Let's Talk show today, Longford County Archivist Martin Morris said Aidan O' Hara became totally committed to the projects he was involved in, and was a huge source of help and expertise to various local groups in the county and beyond.
"He was vice chair for a number of years and he would've given lectures and written articles, and was always very committed to anything he was involved in. He was a man of many interests. The Irish language was a passion of his, he had wonderful knowledge of Irish and traditional music. He was a great musician but also very knowledgeable about music and the history of his ancestral county. His father was from Drumlish and he would've researched his family history and various other aspects of local history".
