Tributes are being paid to a Leitrim man who has passed away after suffering life changing injuries in an accident in a gym almost five years ago.
Mohill native Andrew O’Malley was left paralysed after an incident in December 2016 in a gym in Sligo.
His family campaigned to provide extra supports for people with serious spinal injuries and thousands of euro were raised to provide extra care for him.
His family confirmed that he passed away 'peacefully but unexpectedly' last Friday at Peamount Hospital in Dublin with hundreds of people paying tribute to him describing him variously as a “gentle soul” and “an inspiration”.
His family are holding a private funeral for Andrew and anyone who wishes to make a donation is asked to contribute to the Spinal Injuries Ireland fund if possible.
