The outgoing Bishop of Achonry was given vestments and a painting as departing gifts at his final Mass in Ballaghaderreen this morning.
As well as being the local Bishop for the past four years, he was also the parish priest of the west Roscommon parish.
He's leaving to become an Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin on May 26th.
The dioceses of Achonry and Elphin are to merge, with the Bishop of Elphin, Kevin Doran, recently appointed Apostolic Administrator of Achonry.
Outside the church, these people spoke of their sadness about his departure.
The administrator of the Ballaghaderreen parish, Fr Paul Kivlehan, also paid tribute.
