The Chairman of The Leitrim GAA County Board has expressed his sadness at the passing of John O'Mahony.
John guided Leitrim to only their second ever and last Connacht title win in 1994. O’Mahony had two stints as manager of Mayo, while he famously led neighbours Galway to their most recent All-Ireland senior football titles in 1998 and 2001.
The Ballaghaderreen long time resident later turned to politics - serving as Fine Gael TD for Mayo from 2007 to 2016, and as a senator until 2020.
Enda Stenson who is a local councillor and the chairperson of Leitrim GAA said John did so much for Leitrim GAA. Mr Stenson says John will be remembered in Leitrim for forever more.
