TD Robert Troy will be confirmed as a Fianna Fáil candidate for the general election in the Longford-Westmeath constituency tonight.
The party's selection convention for the Westmeath side is taking place in the Bloomfield House Hotel in Mullingar at 8 o'clock.
He is the only person in the running after Athlone councillor Aengus O'Rourke pulled out.
A convention hasn't been set yet for the Longford side, with current TD Joe Flaherty the only person in the race.
Deputy Troy says he and Flaherty will divide the constituency between them in the election race - as they did when they won two seats for Fianna Fáil in the four-seat constituency in 2020.
