Two men have been arrested in Mullingar following the seizure of a sawn off shotgun.
As part of an investigation into organised criminal activity around the town, plain clothes Gardaí ordered a vehicle to stop near Mullingar yesterday.
The car failed to stop for a period of time with a man in his 30s fleeing the vehicle when it eventually pulled over.
Gardaí chased and arrested the man, while also recovering a bag containing a sawn off shotgun and ammunition, discarded during the pursuit.
Subsequently a second occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 50s, was also arrested, with both men taken to a local a Garda Station, where they are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Follow up searches have been conducted at residential premises in the Mullingar area and a number of items of evidence were also seized.
