Two former Roscommon councillors get 'golden handshakes' of around €90,000 each

All the figures are gross amounts, subject to taxation and based on length of service.

Former Boyle councillor John Cummins was paid just over €90,000, before tax, in a retirement gratuity after he quit politics in June.

The Fianna Fáil man received the golden handshake for 25 years on Roscommon County Council.

Sinn Fein's Michael Mulligan, from Ballaghaderreen, was a councillor for 20 years before he bowed out in June.

His goodbye payment was just under €90,000 - marginally more than longserving Fianna Fáil councillor Orla Leyden (€89,529).

Independent Kathleen Shanagher, from Roscommon town, got a gratuity of €45,000 for 10 years' service.

And Fianna Fáil's Joe Murphy got €37,000 for eight years on the council.

The figures were released to the Sunday Independent.

All the figures are gross amounts, subject to taxation and based on length of service.
