Two students in the Shannonside region recently received a scholarship as part of Johnson & Johnson's WISTEM 2D Awards Programme held at Thomond Park. Ella Casey from Ballymahon, county Longford and Laura Finan from Knockcroghery, county Roscommon were amongst 62 students from across five Irish universities who have been awarded scholarships as part of the women in STEM2D Undergraduate Awards. The two girls are currently studying at the University of Galway.
The Award recognises outstanding female students in STEM2D disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths, Manufacturing and Design. Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris congratulated the recipients of the award and hopes it will encourage more women to study STEM.
