Two men are due back in court later this week following a major drugs seizure in the Shannonside region.
The men, one with an address in Kildare and the other from Waterford city are linked to the importation of over eight million worth of drugs into Longford via a light aeroplane.
Gardaí arrested 54-year-old Tim Gilchrist of Mavis Bank, Newrath, Waterford, and 41-year-old pilot Michal Lucsak, with an address at Primrose Avenue, Jigginstown in Naas, Co. Kildare last Thursday evening after Gardaí monitored a single-engine aircraft landing at Abbeyshrule Aerodrome in south Longford, shortly after 6 pm
Later that evening, they intercepted two vehicles in the Lough Owel area in Co. Westmeath, recovering 120 kilogrammes of cocaine from one car.
They were subsequently detained at Ashbourne Garda Station, Dublin, where they were charged on Saturday evening,
Both men appeared before Judge Patricia Cronin at a special sitting of Mullingar District Court and both are accused of possessing cocaine for sale or supply,
They were remanded in custody to appear again at Mullingar District Court via video link on Thursday.
