Gardaí have detected a number of vehicles breaking the speed limit across the Shannonside Northern Sound region in the first two hours of National Slow Down Day.
Among those speeding was a motorist driving at 76km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the Dublin Road, Cavan, while another motorist was detected driving at 71km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the Monaghan Road, Castleblayney.
Over 15,700 vehicles have been checked as part of National Slow Down Day, which runs until 7 o'clock tomorrow morning.
Elsewhere, in the region two motorists were caught speeding on the M6 Glen Athlone in Westmeath, one travelling at 131km/h and another at 144km/h in a 120km/h zone.
An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
