A decision by Galway County Council to grant a new permit to an embattled Ballinasloe waste transfer facility has been branded 'unbelievable'.
The High Court last month quashed a similar permit by the provider following a challenge by Local group 'Ballinasloe Says No'.
Bruscar Bhearna Teoranta, trading as Barna Recycling, applied to Galway County Council for a subsequent permit to operate a facility in the town, which has now been granted.
A statement from the local group has branded the local authority's decision as showing blatant disregard for the High Court's environmental concerns.
Residents have raised issue over the environmental footprint of the facility along with concerns over road safety due to the route heavy duty waste trucks will take through the town.
Local Senator Aisling Dolan says the community will continue to fight the development.
