Over 5,000 people in the Shannonside region have been recorded on the Live Register in December.
The figures come from a recent CSO report.
The CSO provided a breakdown of the number of people on the Live Register in the last month of 2024.
Co. Longford holds the highest figure of unemployment in the region, at 1,991 availing of a social welfare scheme in December.
The figure is followed by Co. Roscommon, at a total of 1,904.
The CSO report revealed that Co. Leitrim was among the counties with the highest number of people signing on the Live Register per every 10,000 of the population, with 1,541 overall in the month of December.
In total, 5,436 people were recorded on the Live Register last month.
The figures for the three counties come at a 6.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2023.
Nationally, a total of 166,600 people were recorded on the Live Register according to the CSO, up by 3,200 people or 2.0% from November 2024.
