The Chief Executive Officer of the IDA says he believes there's untapped potential when it comes to attracting talent and investment to the Shannonside region.
Leitrim native Michael Lohan was appointed as CEO of the authority in March of this year.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning Mr Lohan says infrastructure projects like the N4 do need to be progressed further west in terms of building the right conditions for the region to attract more investment.
He says though that a lot of the things needed to attract foreign investment have been building steadily in recent years, particularly with regards to education
"We have 2 universities I suppose in Sligo and Athlone respectively within the hinterland of the region. How can we maximise that to make sure we're developing the right skills, the skills that attract people to the region and make them stay in the region for future growth? What we also need to acknowledge as well is within the Shannonside region, we need to ensure an ample supply of housing. That's critically important and they're all ingredients that are there and I'd certainly love to see that being progressed over the next decade because I think there's a real untapped opportunity in the region in general".
