Urgent action is required to aid a Leitrim housing estate affected by rising water levels.
Leitrim County Council has provided an emergency ramp to allow locals to enter Lis Cara Estate in Carrick On Shannon, after rising water levels blocked the entrance.
Local councillor Enda Stenson has called for the estate to be taken in charge and for works to be commenced to drain the substantial surface water.
At today's meeting of the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District, Council officials stated the cause is not flooding but a presumed blockage in the drainage system.
This cannot be confirmed until waters recede, with the local authority willing to consider undertaking future identified works with the cost recouped from the Bond for the estate.
Councillor Stenson says waters are currently up to the foundation of some of the houses:
''It's a Council drain which has been flooded all winter, and with the amount of rain has got a lot worse. and now the water is rising to the level of the foundation of houses and it's not a good situation. We started a process today where at least the drainage will be sorted out within the next two months and hopefully going forward to the estate will be taken in charge and those houses that are there unoccupied, unlivable can be brought to a standard that families can be put into.''
