Urgent call for by law review to tackle Athlone anti-social behaviour

Local Councillor Frankie Keena has called for a review into local by-laws to grant Gardaí more powers to deal with the issues.

A Westmeath Councillor is calling for an urgent review into by laws to curb increases of anti-social behaviour in Athlone.

At the most recent meeting of the Athlone-Moate municipal district, the local authority noted a marked increase in the consumption of alcohol and drugs in the vicinity of the Civic Centre and Civic Square in the town.

Local Councillor Frankie Keena brought forward a motion that called for a review into local by laws to grant Gardaí more powers to deal with the issues.

He says that anti-social behaviour reflects a poor image of the area and the current by-laws need to be strengthened:
