he Irish Blood Transfusion Service is urgently calling for donations, as supplies are running critically low.
Stock levels are at less than three days due to a recent high demand from hospitals.
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service says its current stock levels are at less than half of what's needed for a normal week - it aims to have seven days of stock at all times.
However, a combination of high demand for blood from hospitals, and cancelled donation appointments, has led to just three days of supplies.
Sarah Monahan, clinical nurse manager at the D'Olier Street Blood Donation Clinic in Dublin, says any first-time donors will be fully supported through the process:
IBTS is asking people to visit its website - givebood.ie - for details of evening mobile clinics as well as additional donation clinics running this weekend.
