Commercial and residential vacancy is one of the main problems affecting the provision on housing in Longford according to the Minister for Housing.
The Minister is in Longford today for the opening of the town's Public Realm Enhancement Project.
The initiative saw significant works on the public realm at Market Square, Grafton Court and The Shopping Centre.
The developments were designed to enhance the pedestrian experience with new path treatments, street furniture and lighting.
The works on the Square have resulted in criticisms from several local businesses along with members of the public over issues including a loss of on street parking.
