Booster shots and annual vaccine renewals are likely to be part of the longterm battle against Covid-19 according to the head of the HSE.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound today, Paul Reid, says while the international medical data on the longterm efficacy of Covid vaccines is incomplete, the HSE is already planning for the possibility of booster shot rollouts.
The Health Service CEO says that vaccine renewals may be needed to combat future outbreaks as well as new variants of the disease.
According to the HSE chief, while evidence and science from across the world are still not clear on future vaccine needs, the HSE has begun working on plans for a possible rollout of booster shots should they be needed.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show today, Paul Reid says it's likely that some form of booster will be needed should future variants of the disease spread.
The HSE CEO is also highlighting the effectiveness of the vaccine in combating the Delta variant of Covid-19 in those who're fully vaccinated.
