Independent councillor Valerie Byrne has won re-election to Roscommon County Council at the Hyde this evening.
The Elphin councillor was elected on the third count after topping the poll with 1565 first preference votes. Indeed, Sinn Féin’s Leah Cull is expected to win election for the first time after receiving 1416 first preference votes.
Meanwhile, Independent candidate Micheál Frain took 1355 first preference votes and is also expected to win a seat. Seats four and five are expected to go to Fianna Fáil candidate Sean Moylan (1278) and Independent councillor Tom Crosby (1065). Seat six is rather more difficult to call. However, Fine Gael councillor Liam Callaghan (748) looks set to battle it out with party colleague Dympna Daly Finn (877).
Two further counts have taken place following the elimination of candidates Majid Ali, Fayiz Alsani, Edmund Shanahan, Caoimhin O Miadh and Rory Williams Doyle with no other candidates so far elected.
