Just 6 percent of properties available to rent online in the Shannonside region are looking for long term tenants.
According to new figures, there are 424 properties available In Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon for short term rental on Air BnB.
That's compared to just 26 properties available for longterm leases on the property website Daft,ie.
As the housing crisis worsens across the country, the number of properties on the rental market has decreased, while short term rentals like Air BnB have skyrocketed.
New research carried out by Labour Senator Rebecca Moynihan shows counties with strong tourism backgrounds are especially affected.
Roscommon has the highest disparity locally with 180 Air BnBs available in the county and just 10 homes open to rent.
That's followed closely by Leitrim where the 10 properties advertised for longterm rent are dwarfed by 180 short lets.
In Longford, there are just 6 homes available on the rental market, while 90 Air BnB listings have been registered across the county.
Nationally, Donegal is the county with the highest disparity between long and short term rentals, with 300 hundred short lets vs 19 long term leases.
