Among the demands raised outside the Dáil today were the reduction of the VAT rate to 9% for the hospitality sector.

The Irish Restaurants Association will lead a protest tomorrow against what they've described as a 'lack of support for the sector'.

Enterprise Minister Peter Burke, meanwhile, is rejecting claims he's failed the sector.

Many restaurants are opting for cheaper, imported produce, which the chef says is compromising the authenticity of local restaurants.

The Carrick Chamber President says a recent report on behalf of the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation showed such a move will cost up 24,000 jobs across the country.

A meeting was held with ministers and hospitality representative last night.

The industry supports 6,400 jobs across Longford and Westmeath, generating 87 million euro in tourism revenues annually for the local economy.

The news is being welcomed by the hospitality sector.
