A Roscommon Councillor says that some villages are losing out on grants due to changing criteria
It comes as local senator Eugene Murphy has been in discussion with government and Roscommon County Council regarding funding for the town of Elphin.
Applications were submitted by Elphin for the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and Active Travel scheme, which were ultimately not accepted.
Councillor Valerie Byrne says that the criteria keeps changing and some villages are missing out on vital funding.
"So the application was put into active travel to do the footpaths in Elphin and the criteria changed to move to walkways and cycleways and I have no problem with that they're entitled to it too. So we then decided last year to apply to the town and village scheme to see if we could get some funding there to improve the town and again we lost out. Let's have our town and villages right and not just Elphin but other towns are struggling as well"
