Nurses are calling for a state watchdog to be given more powers to clamp down on violence towards them.
The issue will be highlighted at the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation's annual conference, which starts in Sligo today.
It says there's been an increase in aggression due to hospital overcrowding - after over 3,700 attacks on nurses last year.
