A series of 5 kilometre events aimed at raising a total of €50,000 for local charities across the midlands has begun this weekend.
The events are virtual and people are being asked to support by getting out and walking or cycling 5 in their area and donating at a go fund me page titled "arcadia5kfor50k".
They're being organised by Arcadia Retail Park in Athlone in recognition of the fact that many charities fundraising has been badly impacted by the recent lockdown.
The charities for which the funds are being raised include St Hilda's Services in Athlone, St Christopher's in Longford, NCBI, Moate, South Westmeath Hospice, Roscommon and Castlerea Family Resource Centres, Irish Wheelchair Association in Athlone and Mullingar, and East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support in Ballinasloe.
Anyone who wants to know know more about the fundraising can also visit the Facebook page arcadiaathlone.
