Virus levels fluctuate across the region following spike in local cases

Longford and Leitrim have seen a jump in local cases while Roscommon is continuing to record low levels of virus transmission.

Covid-19 levels in certain areas across the Shannonside Northern Sound region have seen a spike over the last two weeks.

Updated figures from the Department of Health show that local electoral authority areas in Longford and Leitrim have both recorded virus transmission rates above the average national rate.

The national 14 day incidence rate currently stands at 124 cases per 100,000 people.

The Ballymahon LEA in Longford and Ballinamore area in Leitrim are reporting a virus transmission rate of 282 and 223 respectively.

The HSE has been notified of 71 cases of the virus in Longford and 47 in Leitrim over the last two weeks.

Cavan has recorded 88 cases of Covid-19 in the last two weeks and an incidence rate of 105, with the Cavan - Belturbet LEA having over half of the counties cases over the last 14 days.

In Monaghan, there have been 50 new cases since mid April with all local electoral areas reporting transmission rates of under or around the national average of 124.

Roscommon currently has the lowest levels locally with all areas well below the national average.
