Leitrim County Council is looking for volunteers to take part in a special research project about sweathouses in the county.
The project is a community heritage initiative to collect and catalogue all existing information about the sweathouses and to gather oral histories about the sites as well.
There are around 280 of the stone structures dotted around Ireland but they are particularly prevalent in the north west, and in Leitrim especially which has 97 in the county.
It's understood the small stone huts were used in an effort to cure ailments and people would go into them for hours at a time after the stones had been heated by a fire lit inside earlier.
Sarah Malone who's Heritage Officer with Leitrim Council says they want people to help collate the information that's already available in various areas about these huts, and they're also hoping that "oral history" gathering may unearth new stories and links.
