The centres, which were originally designed to identify asymptomatic carriers in the community are now responsible for identifying active cases of the virus.

The HSE is currently operating 5 walk in Covid-19 test centres in the Shannonside Northern Sound region in an effort to insure testing continues in the wake of the cyber attack.

As a result of the major attack on the HSE's IT infrastructure, the GP referral portal for Covid-19 tests is currently down across the country.

Close contacts of confirmed cases and those with Covid-19 symptoms are urged to attend their local centre and notify staff on entry of their status.

The centre's are also welcoming adults without symptoms of the disease to get tested in order to identify asymptomatic cases of the virus.

In the Shannonside region, walk in test centres are open at the Mastertech Business Park in Longford Town, Castlerea Fire Station in Roscommon and the North-West Business and Tech Park in Carrick-on-Shannon.

In the Northern Sound region walk in testing is available at Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence, while in Cavan, members of the Public can attend the Castlesaunderson International Scout Centre in Belturbet.
