The appoint of a new Chief Superintendent to the Longford/Roscommon Garda Division is being strongly welcomed by the Chair of the Longford Joint Policing Committee.
Councillor Seamus Butler has praised the rapid appointment of Chief Superintendent Ray McMahon to the post today following the retirement of Tony Healy from the position last week.
The native Leitrim man previously headed the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau and has extensive policing experience in the Shannonside region.
It's the second high ranking personal change in the Longford area, with Superintendent Seamus Boyle replacing Jim Delaney following his retirement last month.
