The Central Bank and government have been warned of a mortgage 'arrears crisis', as house prices continue to grow locally.
New figures from Geowax show the average price of a home in the Shannonside Northern Sound Region stands at €168,000.
The Irish Independent reports Borrowers whose loans are owned by vulture funds and serviced by pepper, will face a 0.75 percentage point rise on repayments.
The latest increase means some borrowers will now have to pay between 8.5 and 10 per cent.
According to the central bank, 32 thousand people have faced financial difficulty as a result, Monaghan has recorded the highest average home prices in the region according to Geowax at €185,000.
That's followed by homes in Cavan selling for an average of €177,000, with Longford slightly behind at €170,000. Roscommon saw average prices increase to €160,000 in the last year, with Leitrim showing the lowest locally at €151,000.
Nationally, the price of a new home in Ireland has increased by 28 thousand year-on-year, with the highest jumps seen in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Louth.
