A well known Longford Councillor has confirmed he plans to contest the next general election.
In February, Independent Councillor Gerry Warnock announced his decision to step back from local politics and not contest June's local election.
The Longford man was co-opted onto the Council in 2011, in place of his father Christy Warnock, and went on to be successfully elected in the 2014 and 2019 local elections.
Councillor Warnock says he has become increasingly disillusioned with Irish politics and what he believes is the diminution of powers at local authority level.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, the Independent Councillor revealed he will be seeking a seat in Dáil Eireann as an Independent TD.
He says he has a number of issues he plans to work on:
