Irish Rail has contacted Gardai following an incident at a level crossing in Roscommon this morning.
A van and trailer struck the crossing at Knockcroghery at around 9am causing over an hour delay to the 07.15 Westport/Heuston service.
The train was delayed by 44mins and there are still knock-on delays of 10mins as a result.
Irish Rail has confirmed staff are onsite replacing the barrier and Gardaí in Roscommon are investigating.
In March significant damage was caused at the same level crossing when a car smashed through the barriers as a train was approaching.
Ongoing delays remain to Westport services as a result of this motorist's action earlier today. Crews are continuing repair works. Please remember to act safely at level crossings. Always obey crossing warning signs #AlwaysSafe @TFIupdates https://t.co/q3lSynCr3l pic.twitter.com/RSQkVUzYaJ
