The demolition of a home abandoned by its owners on the shores of Lough Funshinagh in south Roscommon has been completed this afternoon.
The O'Meara/Lyons family had to leave their house in Rahara in February of last year as the water levels had become too high for them to stay in the property.
Initial works began at the site last month with the shell of the house completely knocked down today by a construction crew. The water table continues to rise at the infamous turlough and are being described as at a winter high already with excessive rainfall in the last fortnight understood to have added significant pressure on homes and farms in the area.
